This one time I painted a living room with a girl.
This was a handful of years back. It was about eight months before the huge, flame-out of a breakup. That day, though? That day we painted the living room? It was pretty uneventful. We painted my parents living room for $50 between us and a pizza. That was it. I think we watched Anchorman or something after that.
But it still holds as on of the most indelible memories I have. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not still in love, it happened, it was good, it ended, and we’ve both moved on. But I’ll never forget that day. Because it’s never, in the long run, about the grand gestures. You can fly across the world and show up on her doorstep with a rose in your teeth and a ring in a little velvet box but I can guarantee you that - more often than not - she’s going to remember the time you built the birdhouse in the back yard, or what have you, a whole lot more.
Life wasn’t meant to be taken in large movements. The next day will inevitably arrive, you’ll sleep, and the moment will have passed. But when you have a hundred thousand small moments, you can step back and appreciate the picture a lot more than metaphorically blowing your load on some grand moment that, in all honesty, look, you’re not Bruce Fucking Springsteen, you’re not going to be able to blow everyone’s mind every single night. You’re not Romeo and/or Juliet. There’s no reason to drink the poison together in some flame-out gesture. So that leaves us with the small stuff. It’s all about the detail.
That’s what love is. Attention to detail.
And the moment will end. And then things will get boring. And it might get a little quiet. And it might all end horribly. And you might hate eachother at the end. And you might walk away from eachother one day and never speak again. But that’s just how it goes.
But she’ll remember the time you held the door open for her on your first date. She’ll remember the time you laughed at her impression of the landlady. She’ll remember the time you stayed up all night that first time. She’ll remember the small things a lot longer than the big ones.
But everything ends. And I’ll tell you why you have to make the small things, the small moments count so much more:
One day, probably a while longer from now, when old age takes ahold of someone, she might just only remember your smile. Everything you ever did together, every second, every moment, every beat, every morning spent in bed, every evening spent together on the sofa, all of that - gone. Everything you ever did will be reduced to the head of a pin. She won’t remember your name. She’ll just remember your smile, and she’ll smile. She won’t know why. It’s a base, gut reaction. But she’ll smile, uncontrollably, and it will come from somewhere so deep as to know that you touched her on a primal, honest, and true level that no scientist, scholar, or savant could ever begin to explain. There is no more. There is nothing else. There is just this: She’ll remember your smile, and she’ll smile.
And you know what? That’s all that really matters in the end.

This is the coolest thing I’ve ever reblogged. I think about this all the time.
Nobody can even comprehend this fact. There are 7 billion people on the Earth. You can’t comprehend an afterlife because it seems too crazy? Well I can’t comprehend this current life and nobody’s going to tell me it doesn’t exist.
Think about it.

YES YES I WAS TRYING TO REMEMBER THIS THE OTHER DAY because I have this all the time, especially when I travel by train which is one of the reasons why I DO travel by train a lot.

I’M REALLY GLAD THAT THERE’S A WORD FOR THIS WOW

Wow. There’s a WORD for it?

This is CONSTANTLY on my mind. With EVERY person I meet. It’s a bit overwhelming, yet so enthralling. :D
yes yes omg

Omg so weird. This takes up so much of my thoughts

"They called him the Winter Soldier.Supposed to be the KGB’s secret weapon. A guy who could pass for American and slip behind enemy lines or cross borders without raisin’ an eyebrow. Deadly with a knife or a rifle… even deadlier hand-to-hand. And since he was a ghost, half the time they weren’t even sure if it was an accident or a murder. Story went that they kept him on ice and only woke him up for the big gigs.”

Yes.Yes, i know you are struggling, the look in your eyes just speaks of the hardships that you are going through now, i know because I myself is also walking on that path, but Alhamdulillaah, we only find such comfort and ease when we have placed our full trust in Allāh Azza wa jāll.Its true that not everyone or sometimes no one can understand that pain that we are going through but also we know that even tho we do not speak of it, Allaah knows what’s in our hearts and only He can mend such a tested heart.Let me remind you of some beautiful words pertaining on the grandeur of placing our trust in Allāh:[1] "If Allāh has written for you happiness, no-one can steal that from you, and if He has written for your heart to break, then no-one can mend it but He, so always put your trust in Allah."
[2] "It was said that tawakkul is when the heart knows that the Lord is sufficient for the slave."[3] “Tawakkul is having full faith that Allah will take care of you—even when things look impossible.”
Indeed, such words can only be felt once we ourselves makes the effort of doing so, believe me no one can put such ease in your heart than Allāh, His Words in the Qur’ān.
What else can make a believer at his or her happiest than knowing that Allāh loves him or her, won’t you want to be loved by Allāh when he says in the Qur’ān;
[4] ”So when you have made your decision, put your trust in Allāh, certainly, Allāh loves those who puttheir trust (in Him).”Realize that without Allāh with you, nothing can be truly achieved…[5] "The way to be successful in the end, is to turn to Allāh at the beginning."
He is the first step to success, and He is the final result of your success. Always remember that. Be with Allāh and He will be with you. And oh, my dearest brothers and sisters in Islam, please never forget to make du’a for your fellow muslim brothers and sisters, remember what Muhammad sallallahu allaihi wassalaam said;[6] “The supplication of a Muslim for his brother in his absence will certainly be answered. Everytime he makes a supplication for good for his brother, the angel appointed for this particular task says: `Ameen! May it be for you, too’.” So make a long list of du’as it is always fun to list down those names of your beloved and every after salah, you sit down on your prayer mat, grabbing the list and one by one you talk to Him and ask for them, wallah the feeling it brings is just indescribable, so i urge you to try it, for it truly frees the soul from envy and hatred.
Always be generous on making du’a._____
